Introduction to the Hazus-MH Comprehensive Data Management System (for ArcGIS 9.3.1/Hazus-MH MR5)

Description

The Hazus-MH Comprehensive Data Management System (CDMS) helps Hazus-MH users generate more accurate hazard loss estimations by integrating their own data into the Hazus-MH analysis process. In this course, you will learn the basic workflow for importing site-specific and aggregate data to update Hazus-MH inventories. This course focuses on the process of using CDMS rather than Hazus-MH data requirements or data preparation.

• Explain the basic components of the Hazus-MH inventory.
• Describe the general capabilities of the Hazus-MH Comprehensive Data Management System.
• Import Hazus-MH-ready data into the Hazus-MH state inventory.

To complete course exercises, you need the following software:

• ArcGIS 9.3.1 for Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo)
• ArcGIS 9.3.1 Spatial Analyst
• Hazus-MH MR5

• Microsoft Excel 2003 or 2007

Note

• Order Hazus-MH MR5 from the FEMA Map Information eXchange. Be sure to specify version MR5 when ordering.
• Hazus-MH MR5 requires a 32-bit operating system. Review additional requirements for MR5.

• Updating inventory data with CDMS

Familiarity with the Hazus-MH program is recommended. You should also have experience with ArcGIS software and understand database tools and concepts. Hazus-MH experience is recommended, but not mandatory.

It is also recommended that you have existing knowledge of Hazus-MH database requirements or plan to complete the multi-day Federal Emergency Management Agency course E317: Comprehensive Data Management Using Hazus-MH.
