Processing Raster Data Using ArcGIS 10

GIS analysts, specialists, data managers, and other experienced ArcGIS users who need to work with raster data, including imagery, for visualization and analysis.

Prerequisites

Completion of ArcGIS Desktop II: Tools and Functionality or Learning ArcGIS Desktop and Basics of Raster Data (for ArcGIS 10) or equivalent knowledge is required.

• Apply individual image processing functions and chain multiple functions together to dynamically perform tasks such as clipping, masking, pan sharpening, and mosaicking.
• Create a shaded relief map and adjust raster display properties to better distinguish surface features and terrain.
• Create a composite band image from multiple raster layers and change the band display of a multiband image to support visual analysis.
• Create an orthorectified image to correct for distortion caused by elevation differences and curvature of the earth.
• Create a Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) map from a multiband satellite image to visualize the distribution, density, and health of vegetation for an area of interest.
• Compute the pixel-by-pixel difference between two raster layers to assess damage resulting from a natural disaster.
