Getting Started with Lidar in ArcGIS

Description

Lidar datasets contain three-dimensional spatial information about features such as buildings, trees, power lines, etc. Lidar datasets are raw point cloud formats that are massive in size and not easily interpreted. ArcGIS Spatial Analyst and ArcGIS 3D Analyst provide functionality and tools needed to represent and extract feature information from lidar data. In this seminar, the presenter provides an introduction to lidar data and discusses how to interpret and manage lidar data using ArcGIS. Lidar applications and ArcGIS-derived lidar products are explored.

This seminar is designed for anyone interested in learning more about lidar data and how to use it with ArcGIS. Data managers and GIS analysts familiar with ArcGIS Desktop and 3D and spatial analysis tools will especially benefit.

This seminar was developed to support the following software products:

• ArcGIS 9.3 for Desktop or ArcGIS 9.3.1 for Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo)
• ArcGIS 9.3 3D Analyst or ArcGIS 9.3.1 3D Analyst
• ArcGIS 9.3 Spatial Analyst or ArcGIS 9.3.1 Spatial Analyst

Knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop is recommended. Familiarity with spatial analysis concepts and the geodatabase is helpful but not required.
