Getting Started with Map Templates
Presented by Mark Ho
Seminar overview
Simply drawing your GIS data with ArcMap is easy, but map making is an art that requires skill and experience. Luckily, creating useful, well-designed maps is now made easier with map templates. Available through the ESRI Resource Center, map templates are designed by ESRI’s cartographers who have critical insider knowledge of ArcGIS functionality. This seminar will provide an overview of what map templates contain, how to get started, and how to adapt the contents of the templates or evolve your data to your mapping needs. Participants will learn where to find and download map templates. Templates include example map documents, data models, geoprocessing tools, and more—each template is a complete solution for a given kind of map. This seminar will then discuss how you can use your data with map templates to produce professional quality basemaps and publish them.
Key points
The presenter will discuss:
- Downloading map templates from the ESRI Resource Center
- Learning about the contents of a map template
- Using your data with a map template
- Highlighting examples of different map templates
- Publishing map templates as mapping services via ArcGIS Online
Intended audience
This seminar is for map makers in any organization who want to create professional quality maps. GIS technicians and cartographers who are familiar with ArcGIS Desktop and make maps regularly will benefit from this presentation. Some knowledge of ArcGIS Server is also helpful for the discussion of publishing maps online.
