Catalog Search Tips

You may find these tips helpful in deciding what words to type for your search:

  • Quotes are used to identify exact phrases.
If you are searching for an exact phrase, such as spatial analysis, surround the phrase with double quotes (type "spatial analysis"). If you want the results to display everything that includes spatial and analysis, not necessarily adjacent, just type spatial analysis (no quotes).
  • Commas and other special characters are considered blank.
The search ignores most special characters and treats them as blank. For example, if you type ArcGIS, networks your results will display everything that includes ArcGIS and networks.
  • Use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard to broaden your search.
The search supports wildcard searches, so a search for geocod* will result in matches for geocode and geocoding. Important: The wildcard character must be placed at the end of a word; it will not work if placed at the beginning of a word.
