Migrating Coverages into the Geodatabase
Overview
Compared to the coverage model, the ArcGIS geodatabase data model provides more opportunities for modeling real-world objects. This workshop provides an overview of the similarities and differences between the coverage and geodatabase data models and equips participants with the tools and techniques needed for migrating spatial and attribute data into the geodatabase. Participants learn how to create a personal geodatabase and use ArcGIS conversion utilities to migrate existing coverages and INFO files into geodatabase feature datasets, feature classes, and tables. Additionally, participants are introduced to geodatabase topology and learn how it differs from coverage data model topology.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is designed for ArcGIS users who want to learn how to convert existing coverages and INFO files to geodatabase components.
Prerequisites
Participants should be familiar with basic ArcGIS operations and concepts and the coverage and geodatabase data models. For those who are new to the geodatabase, prior completion of Basics of the Geodatabase Data Model is recommended.
For ArcView users who want to learn how to use topology to improve feature editing, the Working with Map Topology in ArcGIS workshop may be of interest.
