Recorded Seminar Common Questions

If you are having trouble viewing our recorded training seminars, please check below for a solution.
Test the sample presentation to verify you have the required software.

To view the presentation, ensure that you have the following:

I don’t see the presentation.

When you first view the seminar, the presentation window will be black while the presentation buffers. Allow up to 1 minute for the stream to begin.

You may also need to have your IT department modify your organization’s firewall by adding a streaming exception. We broadcast the presentation using two streaming media protocols: HTTP and UDP. You should not need to make any modifications to receive the stream using HTTP (port 80). For optimal viewing, we recommend configuring your network to allow UDP streaming. To enable UDP, open ports 1024-5000 for incoming UDP (only) for the Esri Streaming Service mms://198.102.35.170/*.

Using TCP/IP or HTTP instead of UDP connections may cause the presentation to freeze during periods of heavy network traffic. Please reference http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/serve/firewall.aspx and http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q189416 for more information.

The presentation stops and stalls.

The two most common causes of the presentation pausing is your network connection or you may have too many computer applications open at the same time on your computer.

First, ensure that you meet the system requirements listed above. Second, try closing open applications to free up system resources. You may need to close and reopen your browser and then reconnect to the seminar.

Finally, it is possible that your IT department is throttling your internet connection or video streams. Contact your IT department or internet provider if you consistently have skips or "hiccups" as you are trying to view the seminar.

I have a high-speed connection, but I still cannot view the presentation.

Your organization may be using a firewall and/or other security measures to prevent you from streaming the video. Contact your IT department for details on any network restrictions that may be in place which are affecting your viewing experience.

I don't hear any audio.

Please try the following solutions (in order):

  1. Try adjusting the volume.
  2. Refresh the browser.
  3. Reinstall the Windows Media Player 7.1 or later codecs package.
  4. Reinstall Windows Media Player 9 or higher from Microsoft's Download Center or contact your system administrator to do so.
How do I adjust the volume?

The sound can be adjusted in three ways:

  1. Windows Media Player has its own volume control. You can right-click the center of the presentation page, choose Volume, and adjust the sound.
  2. Set the volume on your computer by clicking the speaker icon next to your clock, or it can also be adjusted by going to Control Panel > Sound.
  3. Set the volume on your external speakers or headphones.

If the settings above do not help, try using external speakers. You may also want to contact your system administrator to update your audio driver or obtain a new sound card.

The audio is choppy. How do I adjust my buffer settings?

You can adjust the buffer in Windows Media Player. This will result in a longer initial download, but will help to provide a smoother presentation stream. To adjust the buffer:

  1. Right-click the center of the presentation page and choose Options.
  2. Click the Performance tab and under Network buffering type 45 for the seconds of content then click OK.
  3. Refresh your browser.
  4. Please allow up to one minute for the refresh to complete. If this solution is not successful, please contact your system administrator.
